Proactive vs Reactive - Which is better at what time

A reactive approach to life issues is based primarily upon responding to events after they have happened, with little assessment time prior to the event.  A proactive viewpoint allows for problems to be eliminated prior to becoming an issue, thereby providing the opportunity for a better short and long-term outcome.

There is an old adage that "prevention is better than a cure", which speaks towards developing a proactive viewpoint to decision making that has health care implications.  Yet, almost every choice we make has some potential to impact our physical, mental, emotional or spiritual health and well-being.

When viewed through a health care lens, reactive healthcare occurs after an undesirable outcome is identified. Medical injuries, diseases, or symptoms all are identified prior to seeing medical cares or interventions.  Proactive healthcare related to lifestyle choices and changes that may or may not occur as a result of an injury, disease or medical symptom.

While many will say that with age comes wisdom, the fact is that this can be considered more as a factor of basic lifestyle and choices, and not accumulated wisdom.  Younger people are more active and assume for risks during daily life than an older population.  If injuries occur as a result of these risks, then there are obviously long term care issues do to the initial trauma.   Education & experience vs research & exploration.

"I probably should not do that" vs "Hell, lets see what happens."   How did you wake up this morning?

I'm ready for whatever Hell and the furies might bring me today ... but tomorrow is always another day.

Agreed Tower. I tend to roll into events and deal with the consequences afterwards much more often than I should.  Keeps life interesting if nothing else.

Not me! I'm always on my toes!

Look at RPB convincing himself he found a unicorn from Nigeria, you and I know beauty is skin deep and ugly even deeper! The beauty always fades away as you discover the creature beneath the surface and the narcissism confined therein!

I try to be a little bit of both, but I find myself to be more reactive. I often find myself in situations that I haven't the slightest how it turned out that way, but it is also how my life has been so productive. I took a chance on a lot of things, volunteered for things at the last second, and took the approach to see what it is like, over finding out first then deciding. I believe that the mix is much due to age and experience. I cannot come back as quickly to some of the risks that I took in the past. I also have foresight in a lot of things, so even while it might look like a plunge, I have already experienced something similar.

If I were to advise anyone, I would say live your years of youth to experience life and take chances. When you age, you will not have the ability to do that, and you will miss out on a lot insight, experience, and real life knowledge.

Absolutely Uly.  While doors do not completely close as one ages, they appear more infrequently and are an opportunity over a shorter duration.  We do h0wever continue to improve those knowledge, skills and abilities that we have already experienced.  The body is the one factor that never improves as we age.  Past injuries can never be truly mitigated and always impact future activities.

Every legal  battle I have entered was initiated by the EVIL ones in the edgar suits of the judiciary. I seldom win these battles, but they have a hard time taking the high ground of morality.  Many people like to judge a person according to the accusations not the evidence.  Those who keep telling me the the authorities can do anything they want to me fail to understand my position. I always agree with them and add to their truth.

Yes the authorities can do anything to me they like, but they cannot prove to be the good guys while doing it..

All they will prove is they enjoy being bullies and picking on a poverty stricken slave.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at the idiots who misunderstand me! Kind mockery toward the well-intentioned and unfettered cruelty toward all would-be prison guards of my creative possibilities. In this way I learn to revel as much in misunderstanding as in understanding and take pleasure in worthy opponents. Making language fluid, flowing like a river, yet precise and pointed as a dirk, contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful verbal dance—a linguistic martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.

Pretty much since I had completed the task of learning how to walk, I started my escapism into the bushes and forests, alongside the rivers and lakes.
To a place of quiet, that made sense in and of itself.

Nowadays, when I cross the countryside, I tend to stumble into the local animals, unnoticed.
Sometimes, the perimeter then dictates me to pass their current location or even they themselves are on a trajectory directly towards or right through me.

So, I say something along the lines of: “Hello, I am here.”
I pop out of nowhere. They realize me. I calm them down. All in all, it is an hilarious process, I give it that.

Here is the thing: I have never met a bear that way. Imagine, I come across a bear like popping out of nowhere.

In the worst case, I’d be standing right on his dick, before he and I even realize something bad going on. That is some bad riddance, there.

I hold great respect and sympathy for this Species. Bears are quite fine doing their own thing. Them breathing the same air, I do, inspires me, to be honest. In the Bronze Age they, here, were considered equals to man.
-But all that wouldn’t matter, much, if I happened to wrong one.

I am responsible for not stepping on resting bears. If I do, it’s my fault. I have to be proactive about this. Look, before you take a bad step.
It is quite simple and just that way.
Stay well!

Hey, I did say I was being sarcastic, I don’t think she’s a unicorn, but yes she is hot. And it’s Ethiopia, not Nigeria.

Back to the topic, when I was younger I was really quiet, a introvert, so I guess you could say I would let situations usually happen by themselves and take it from there do to my shyness. Now that I’m older, after taking the red pill and not having anymore fucks to give, I find myself creating situations.

For example, offending people for speaking the truth, and doing things I’m not supposed to be doing, so if in return I get in trouble with law enforcement, or have people turn on me and hate for speaking the truth now, I then go with it from there. I’m conscious I can get in trouble and offend people that once loved me, but I do it anyway.

I used to plan everything and overthink to much, probably a good and bad thing, I’ve missed a lot of opportunities, but at the same time I avoided disaster.

But now that I’m more outgoing and worrying about consequences later, my life has become fun and I feel more free. But don’t get me wrong, even in these situations, I still think about how I’m gonna do it before I do it, but unlike when I was younger, i DO IT, instead of not doing it.  And to be honest, I’m at the point that I don’t care if I get in to trouble or not.

Hope this makes some sense I was trying to stay on topic.

Check KMB, not worrying about life and non-critical circumstances great increases your overall health.  Kuso's for being able to do so and continuing to go your own way.

This made me laugh. I have said Hello to all the bears in my local wooded area.

Only when I travel out of my local woods do I have to watch my step.

I pray that soon that all the worlds  bears will learn to communicate better

so people like you and I can walk without fear of stumbling over anything wilder than we are.

I am the foreigner not the bears. Its about time the bears were all better trained.

I believe that the domestication of the bear population is way overdue.

I love bears every one.

Bond found his success by being both proactive and reactive. While just on film, in the real world, we see that finding the balance is what makes a man successful. If you are only reactive, you might was well expect to fail often. If you are only proactive, you might as well be a robot. Being able to have the best of both ways in handling things is what gives us the ability to innovate, improve and create.

I used Uly's above comment this week when asked by someone "what they should do about situation X", you should have seen his eyes widen.

It seems that standard speech is not sufficient to discuss ideas, now you have to use an entertainment metaphor as context.  The Social Media generation is upon us.
