Your system image is corrupt. You need to do a flash of the image. After that, you need to do a fresh windows install, utilizing disks if you can, if not, download unto a flash drive and do a bootup sequence install. After that, do a hard drive test, to ensure your hard drive is not faulty. Your RAM is fine, from the sound of it. Past the system image fix, fresh windows install and hard drive check, I think you will be fine.

Your initial problem sounded like a bad install of windows, hard drive fault, or graphics card has gone bad.

@ulynecro

Just did a fresh install from a flash image on a USB stick. going to run a check disk now. I am thinking of dropping by Bestbuy and getting another video card and seeing if that fixes my problem. probably the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 TI

Just picked up the MSI AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT OC from Best Buy. Trying to get drivers on for it and then going to see it hat resolves the issue.

As a computer protip, try to keep AMD and Radeon together, and Pentium and NVidia together. While it is not always common, most compatibility issues that do arrise are from crossing these with one another. Something I learned through experience. ASUS and MSI are both excellent brands, and will serve you well within their specs.

It's been a journey, and thanks for the help. Looks like the hard drives are fine. Didn't find any errors when doing "chkdsk" in command prompt or through the tool setting after opening the property sheet and doing a scan on each one individually.

It's been a while since I have built a desktop, and compatability issues have been a deciding factor in the components I chose.  I also found the order of the components installed, which slot is used, also mattered.  Sometimes switching the sound card to the next slot stopped video card issues because IRQs were shared with AGP slot and first PCI slot.

I built my computers exclusively for gaming, and found they liked a fresh Windows install every year.  After so many updates things got corrupted and the framerates would drop causing a reduction in performance.

Glad to hear from you, Brother!

Yes. Gaming computers can be tricky. Just got another error code it was stop code video_dxgkrnl_fatal error. Since that one. It's been up and running for 6 hours with a game minimized.

@Watz,

To build a computer, invest in your Motherboard first followed by  CPU then GPU. I'd also recommend at least getting a 1 TB hard drive.if you have the money get a second SSD drive a good Nvidia graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super or IT.  Graphics is the first thing that I will max out and ram should really be above 16 gb. That gives enough for gaming and then doing something else on the side such as streaming or recording etc.
