Hey guys, I just came upon a great deal for a VPN, 70% off if you choose the 3 year plan, a grand total of 123 dollars for perfect safety online. The deal ends in about 7,5 hours, so if you don't have a VPN yet (like I did until half an hour ago), I suggest you get to it!

Keep in mind, most VPNs keep full records, share IP address with other users, and are blocked by many locations due to violations using these. As such, using a VPN can cause more problems than they help. I advocate knowing the service and looking up their IP blocks, to ensure your privacy and security. I do advocate VPN usage, but know who is controlling the traffic or you could be falling right into a trap of exploitation or worse.

Great post and commentary, just made this a sticky post to ensure that it does not get buried.  Would appreciate hearing for other VPN members regarding their personal respective on the pro's and con's of VPN vs Commodity Internet service.

They are providing a massive discount for a reason. They recently got hacked badly. It is a big news. Avoid nord, tunnel bear, PIA, all are data collectors and sellers. Use an open source VPN and make your own.

@morpheus

Check Morpheus.  Data hacks can only impact those who post too much information.  Be careful of how you use the Internet and what information you share while doing so.  Security breaches will happen, nothing in invulnerable.  However, adopting a minimalist style towards information sharing will mitigate the personal damage to you.

Well, turned out the VPN did indeed cause more trouble than help. Websites would load slowly or not at all, images posted in apps like Discord would load endlessly, and if I'd click "open link" it would fail. Download speed dropped from standard 12 MBps to 2,5...  I hopped from VPN server to VPN server to see if the problems would end, but nope. I then terminated the VPN and everything was smooth sailing again. I checked my router and browsers, firewall and more, and there was nothing wrong with them.

I contacted the website, started a chat with an employee, told him about my problems and my troubleshooting, and I said I wanted my money back. He agreed and I'll have it back within a few days, which is good. Guess that's the end of VPN's for me!

@nerevar

Sorry that things did not work out Nerevar, however this is a great post for anyone who might be considering a VPN in the future.  Great troubleshooting process by the way.

That is par for the course on VPNs lately. I have many VPNs black listed as well, as they are used by people trying to infiltrate the website. I maintain a tight ship for security purposes.

I just use the vpn in the browsers if I use one. Only for Pornhub or some such. Free with the browsers.

Don't do this to yourself guy's. If any of you need some proper, professional advice on compooting...just give me a PM.

As cute as it, listening to your amateur waffling on the subject, I'm perfectly willing to give you the benefit of my experience. Seriously, all you have to do is ask.

As it happens, I've just helped Uly sort out a massive software issue involving a major logging-in problem. We probably wouldn't even be operational now, if not for my skill set.

I think that speaks for itself.
