I am enjoying my latest purchase, in preparing to go hunting in the next deer season.

This rifle looks great in presentation and the accuracy is astounding. I am looking forward to taking a few shots in warming up, and anticipating an excellent deer hunting season to come.

That is an awesome rifle brother! I am salivating over here.

Care to share some specs with us, like caliber, model, etc? I love a good bolt rifle in a full power rifle cartridge, there is no better feeling than laying the smackdown of Thor's hammer on something from hundreds of yards away.

Tikka T3 Hunter, 308 Winchester. With the assistance of Evil Genius, Old Buck, Gregbo and others, I was able to finally narrow down what I was looking for and find the perfect rifle. The scope I have mounted is the Vortex Diamondback HP.

Not only what Uly said above BUT he got that thing at a KICK-ASS discount price...I'm really jealous and to be honest for a fleeting moment during the final moments of the auction I did consider snaking it---but Uly is a brother and I just couldn't do it. BUT I WANTED TO! 😫 😫 😫

Gunbroker.com  it's a great site and TEG had to keep telling me to not snipe on him.  It was a great auction but at a below normal price that neither of us could figure out why.

I can't wait to see the results of 53clicks and ULY plinking at 500 yards with match grade rounds!  Yikes

These gun threads got me thinking about Full Metal Jacket.

That is a lovely rifle. My favorite round to boot.  At 500 yards she will be nice and smooth.

When guns were allowed in AU I had an ancient Lee Enfield 303 manufactured by the Lithgow Arms Corporation in 1942.

Had an accurate range of 800 yards. Hung a plow shear from a tree and hit it with solid shotgun shells, 223's with both hunting and full metal jacket bullets and nothing happened. One round of military ammo from the .303 split the solid steel plow shear in half!

Any sort of firearm in AU is now illegal for law abiding citizens but funnily enough gun crime is on the increase..... Don't figure.

I saved it on my computer in my room but staying with a friend during school weeks to save on gas. how much did it cost? Was getting ur background checked hard?

That is a painful loss of a fantastic firearm. The goal of all governments is to disarm the people and thus control them without fear of reprisal. Fortunately, the United States is still fighting to keep the laws of freedom for the people. As you stated, outlawing firearms from the law abiding citizens only enforces the edge for the criminals. Crime will continue to increase until people can defend themselves properly again, since no protection will be afforded by an indifferent government. Those that govern should be forced to live among those they that they govern, by the same laws and benefits, or lack thereof.

Uly, I recommend getting a one piece cleaning rod.  The military sectional style are garbage in my opinion.  They sections never line up properly and the slight mismatch dings the throat and chamber every stroke!

Look for a Dewey Rod.  They are made of spring steel and coated with nylon.  They are designed to clean AND protect the rifling and chamber.  The handle is mounted with a bearing, allowing the rod to spin with the rifling.  I can buy these locally at Fleet Farm or Cabelas, or look online at midway or other discount stores!

.30 Caliber Nylon Coated Rod – 36 Inches. Model# 30C-36

Look for a .30 cal rod, 24" may be a bit short, so try the 36".  Use a tape measure and measure the overall action length with the barrel.  You have to reach all the way thru without the handle hitting the stock.  Also, these come with a jag.  With a small patch the jag acts like a squeegee and works WAY better than the stupid loop that holds a patch.

Dewey cleaning rod .30 91cm

Is there a video bout how to clean a gun? How often do I have to do it? The store was out of my rifle so they told me they have to order it. They tried to make me buy another but I don't have that much money. They told me they have to call me when it comes in. My mom said it have to stay at my dads but thats totally okay with me. Do I need to one of those screwdriver things?

Old Buck can provide a much better detailed answer than I can, but yet, maintenance and care of the firearm is very important. Even if you do not use it, you need to do preventive maintenance about once a month, based on my experience with such weaponry. I am currently researching oils and tools currently, to decide what exactly to purchase that will be best for my needs.

Machiavelli, you only have to adhere a hard tip with a sharp enough point, ensure the psi is high enough, and you have a 'tool' for protection. Mythbusters, King of Random and many other places have such demonstrations. Then you can say that it's 'Nerf or nothing!' lol!

A properly cleaned gun can last a year in storage before needing another oiling, but it really depends on your environment.  If you live near the ocean, there will be a lot of salt in the air, and you need to clean more often.  Live in a high humidity area?  Yup, oil her more.  Live in the desert?  All that sand and dust needs to be cleaned out more often.

I try to clean after every trip at the range, or at least the weekend after...

After sighting in a rifle for hunting I WON'T clean it until after the hunt is over.  Oil in the bore will cause the first few shots to be different than the last you fired sighting in the rifle.  That could mean a missed shot, so I wait a week or two.

Hell, I'm also lazy.  I would clean my Glock pistol only once every year, whether I ran several thousand rounds through it or not.  Didn't care.  Damn thing ran great and that was my protection gun.  The reliability is so great that I don't need to clean it LOL.

The more you shoot, the more you will need to clean as .22 ammo is generally more dirty that other calibers of ammo.

I will agree about the salt and high humidity. I have to oil and clean my .44 revolver along with my two Damascus Karambits once a week. Though I did find Camille oil helps keep the knives in better shape longer. I will be curious how well the .45 does when she gets here. I don't have a good name yet picked out.

When you say screw driver thing? Can you be more specific. I would recommend a bore snake in your caliber chosen, Remington gun wipes, and hops gun oil. For scrubbing the outside a firm toothbrush will do the trick. I have used that combo since the military. I am sure Old Buck could give you more instruction, or possibly correct a few of my errors.

I assume that he is talking about the rod, that Old Buck linked. I agree that Hops 9 appears to be the best oil on the market for my needs, and seems like an all around best oil as well. I have never seen or used a bore snake in the military, but they do look easy enough to use and possibly the most logical. Rock on, Zasta.
