I woke up a bit early this morning and turned on the boob tube to create a little noise and help me get back to sleep.  I ended up watching this documentary.  It has a very powerful message of growth and overcoming addictions.

Here is the documentary's website:   https://thetrip.film

a group of men who once a year hike into the wilderness of Colorado and go fly fishing in the middle of nowhere. There they can leave behind their troubles and focus on self improvement in complete silence.  A man can actually hear his own thoughts, without the constant drone of nagging.

The story is about Jeff Voth, who for the past 35 years, has led his sons and other groups of men on an annual backpacking trip into the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  This trip has become a legendary, masculine benchmark.  Learning life-skills, trout fishing, extreme physical fatigue and the sharing of deep heart-felt secrets in sometimes beautiful, sometimes terrifying alpine backdrop has etched this event indelibly into these men's lives.  They would each tell you that they have been forever changed... that have been forged into a deeper and healthier masculine place... that they have become better men because of the trip.

Here is the trailer.  There are multiple platforms available to rent ($3.99) or purchase ($5.99) this documentary on their site.

You can also search your local PBS station's broadcast schedule and find out when you can watch for free.

I've been mountaineering since my early 20s!  I wouldn't erase one single step for a million dollars!

The mountains saved my life!

I would love to go back to Colorado, but the state is being raped by the influx of Californicators.  It used to be all the loonies stayed in Boulder.  Now the whole state is fucked.  The Cali's get sick of all the liberal shit they start in government, then move out of state to get away from it, and for some insane reason they start the same shit in their NEW HOME!

I would enjoy hiking when I was younger. I would spend a lot of time outdoors and it was among the best times I have experienced. Getting away from technology and just being a man in the woods is a very free feeling and something that every boy/man should experience.
