A Man's lifelong destiny is to build, build throughout life.  A Man's life is a journey of discovery and learning; learning a craft that will sustain us through our existence and directly influence those things we build.  Enjoy.

“The Builders” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

All are architects of Fate,
Working in these walls of Time;
Some with massive deeds and great,
Some with ornaments of rhyme.

Nothing useless is, or low;
Each thing in its place is best;
And what seems but idle show
Strengthens and supports the rest.

For the structure that we raise,
Time is with materials filled;
Our to-days and yesterdays
Are the blocks with which we build.

Truly shape and fashion these;
Leave no yawning gaps between;
Think not, because no man sees,
Such things will remain unseen.

In the elder days of Art,
Builders wrought with greatest care
Each minute and unseen part;
For the Gods see everywhere.

Let us do our work as well,
Both the unseen and the seen;
Make the house, where Gods may dwell,
Beautiful, entire, and clean.

Else our lives are incomplete,
Standing in these walls of Time,
Broken stairways, where the feet
Stumble as they seek to climb.

Build to-day, then, strong and sure,
With a firm and ample base;
And ascending and secure
Shall to-morrow find its place.

Thus alone can we attain
To those turrets, where the eye
Sees the world as one vast plain,
And one boundless reach of sky.

Not in the poem, but the photo is androgenous so it's up to the viewer to determine.  Shot off target but a shot none the less. 😎

Looking at the photo, not that it matters mind you, under high magnification is ultimately inconclusive. The blue lower apron image is associated with all four figures.  The shadow on the shirt seems to be associated with the sun.

So to me, it looks like an image of four men performing stone work for some building related project.  The poem speaks towards the contributions made over time, those large and those small.  All men have contributed to "HISTORY".

"Voyage Of Bran" - by Brendan Perry

Father Father

Can You Tell Me

Where The Hours Go

Where Time Flows ?

Is It Written In The Stars

Upon The Milky Way

That We Must Burn Bright

Before We Fade Away ?

Mother Mother

Can You Tell Me

Where The Fire Goes

When The Flames Cease ?

"From The Ashes To The Astral Plain

Where The Setting Sun Meets The Sea, Brendan"

I Live By The River

Where The Old Gods Still Dream

Of Inner Communion

With The Open Sea

Through The Eye Of A Hunter

In Search Of A Prey

Neither Beast Nor Human

In My Philosophy

If You Don´t Recognize Me

Well It´s Simply Because

I´ve Outgrown These Old Clothes

Time To Move On

For You And I Will Outlive

These Masks Life Gave Us

When This Shadowplay Comes

To A Close

Fantastic Matcha, thanks for sharing.  Reminds me of Irish/Welsh  tales such as the Mabinogion.  Ancient warnings regarding the snares women place to lure men away from the "normal" and into the "paranormal" aka, their plane of existence and place of power.

That is certainly no coincidence, as ancient British tales have had a great influence on the work of the artist Brendan Perry. The song being directed as a warning regarding the snares of women, well, that thought never occurred to me, to be honest. Interesting approach. The "paranormal" -as you put it- though is not and never has been exclusively reserved to be the "plane of existence and power" of women.

Which is another interesting way to put it. Only that would be quite a narrow minded reflection on the topic at hand. Another way to say "paranormal" is "supernatural", for example.

Do you see where this is going?

The "supernatural" is the typical plane of existence and power of the demons and the saints.

See, what I did, there?

The ancient tales are full of warnings concerning the craft. You better keep away from messing about with the supernatural, when you are not clean in the spirit. Regardless your gender or associations.

Check Matcha, I tend to use paranormal instead of supernatural as it seems that every day a norm of physics is amended or repealed.  There are many things in life that lie beyond the scope and scale of my personal experience or science education.  Nice and tidy for me!

Yes indeed, auras, and the ability to see them, give man the ability to control and manipulate those who have / are carrying baggage.

Women have always placed snares to keep the men in their lives "grounded", as well as to attract and obtain new men.  Mazes always have an end point, it's only the amount of time that is required from the start to the end that is questioned, never the endpoint.

Situational analysis, or paranoia, could actually be the same most of the time.

Is that really so? Well, splendid, then.

No matter what you do, - let me paraphrase Bob Dylan, here - you gotta serve someone. In case of taking to effect "the ability to control and manipulate others", what you are exactly doing is becoming a subject of the principality that rules over the domain of "control and manipulation". Well done [sarc] to all those who effectively subjugate themselves to such principalities, instead of serving the most high and the most high, alone.

Slowly it is dawning on me, what a really funny guy you are. Do not get me wrong (and let me explain): often times I struggle to make any sense out of your comments - or with what they might be supposed to mean. But -over the course of a year- you almost have me so far that I will go on record here and insult you vividly ´til Kingdom comes. Which is ...a great honor, if I might be so frank.

By the way, I like your use of the word "baggage", other than that great OP!

Nobody needs something nasty as that. Nice and tidy buildings be temples of the Holy Spirit.

Better expect any role player to formulate ludicrous things like that. 😆

It actually is as most of my peers are academics, or products of academia, and are very literal in their thinking by default.  Being a non traditional technologist I view events, projects and such from a social setting.  While I enjoy reading and researching the sciences, I do not enjoy debating ones knowledge of the latest trends in each and every discipline.  Generalities are OK with me.  Simple. 😀

Agreed, the historical female response has been to ally with anyone and any group to realize personal, and small group, objectives and goals.  Pagan religions and fertility cults are the most ancient example I can think of at the moment.  How are those working out I might ask?

Divergent thinking moj drug.  I am very often accused of forgetting to structure communication, instead of cutting to the quick. 🙄  In sincerity, thank you for the reminder to not just "pump and dump" posts but to be more purposeful.  Self gratification is a easy trait to achieve, but often the one most harmful to the overall organization!

Most assuredly, however those pristine buildings are the easiest to become infected as they do not receive routine inspection/introspection and maintenance.  Decomposition of self leads to death of the spirit.  Secular spirituality and personal beliefs are assaulted daily by extrinsic forces, but the result trauma is internal.

Pagan religions and fertility cults are the most ancient example I can think of at the moment.  How are those working out I might ask?

The first right now are more popular, influential and obscure than ever, the latter only needed roughly about 11.000 years to breed apples, oranges, cabbages, carrots and so forth - by sacrificing newborn babies, princesses and princes every once in a while to rather strange, lustful and bloodthirsty idols. Other than that, especially when it comes to personnel, they both are over-represented in the United Nations, the IMF, the Vatican, political parties, Governments, all kinds of lodges and other not less obscure organizations like that...

 🤔 So, overall they are doing quite well. 😀

Thanks Matcha, these are groups that I am aware of, but do not have on any radar.  🤨

Thus alone can we attain
To those turrets, where the eye
Sees the world as one vast plain,
And one boundless reach of sky:

the builders poem henry wadsworth longfellow

This is really beautiful, I have to say. The poem as well as the painting. Today at work I had to think of both. I was doing some basic stone masonry with a colleague and - given that we had a correct blueprint to work with and had made an elaborated plan we thoroughly followed - we could work in silence and were focused on our respective roles in the organization. Can you (the reader) see the silence depicted in the painting of these four men, while each is forming his piece of the great puzzle? In my eyes it is depicted very well. How every one of them is focused on his part of the greater work they accomplish together. Without chattering like hens, without fuss or uncertainty. Tidy.

Today I experienced the welcomed peace and harmony of doing just that. The rather rhythmic sound of hammer and chisel meeting the stone and cutting it into (more or less) precisely fitting pieces we then assembled to last on a previously prepared foundation of fieldstone. Working with yardsticks, carpenter´s rule and water level. Creating something that is apt and will stand the test of time.

Taking all my preamble in this thread aside, this is what strikes me as really crucial about it. I guess, you have an easier time to understand me, if I just let you know.

I mean, you know, that you do contradict yourself in one and the same sentence, there?

Decomposition of self leads to death of the spirit.

So, you believe in the spirit being tied to and dependent on the self?

Who or what exactly attacks your secular spirituality and personal beliefs on the daily?
