Just picked up the rental car I will be using to travel to and from Pistol Pete’s for the week.

As usual there were way too many renters than vehicles available. My choices were an extra kind Ford F-250 pickup, a Korean microbix type of car, a Chrysler Seabring convertible or a 2018 Dodge Challenger.

Wish you were around to help drive this week Honda! I have unlimited miles and no real desire to put the car through the paces.

Great Choice of machine Gregbo.

For our NY to LA trip we had a 2017 Nissan Sentra. Very uneventful but it didn’t miss a beat during the 3,800 mile trip.

To complete the journey in a Challenger would have been great.

We are looking at a West coast to east coast trip in the next year and I have already mentioned to Paul we need muscle.

Now you know the worst vehicles when it comes to rental leftovers! Nobody wants the lemons! And when it comes to cars, there's no such thing as turning lemons to lemonade! They're iron lemons.

This is more my style, and it comes in Toyota red!

I still love the Challenger, even though I've never driven one. I just love the style. It's the closest thing I know to a late 60's mid 70's style that you can buy new. Although I've been raving on and on about how I'm gonna get me one when my "Investments" mature, at the moment it's an impossible dream.

In reality, if I had the money to buy a brand new car, the sensible option would be a Honda Accord I think. As cars are more and more built around electronics it makes sense to chose one made in a country that has a proven track record in producing reliable electronics, and that's Japan every time.

However, would the Accord make every journey a pleasurable event? Probably not. The Challenger however would give me the staring role in my own re-make of the Movie "Vanishing Point".

God Dammit Man! I thought I'd moved on from the stupid ambition to own one, and now I'm right back there.

Oh well, back to reality. Time to drive to the store in my Japanese Clunker.

At least I can listen to Tom Leykis on the stereo and imagine I'm cruising down a smooth sunny highway rather than crawling along an overcast and pot holed B road.

I strongly disagree with Itsallbs, all off the US roads are made of gold.

Just kidding they look more like this.

Roads?

Where I live, there an't no roads!

Roads actually go somewhere, here they don't go anywhere for anybody! They just vanish onto the nothing!

the streets of the USA are not paved with gold.

The reality will be very different to the two weeks you spent on holiday at Pistol Pete's

Great Britain is full of superb driving roads.

Do something to make the country and your situation better.

Take up archery or clay pigeon shooting.

Spending any more than 10% of your time on forums and video conferencing is not good for you - social media is proven to cause depression

I appreciate your sentiments BS, and the last two points about hobbies and social media I'm in agreement with. But:

There's a dam sight more Gold in the states than there is in England. Remember Gordon Brown sold all of our's off at a Dime on the dollar in the early 2000's?

There's also a shit load more Natural Resources, Land, Oil, Farming Land, Industrial Capacity in the states.

The UK cannot even feed it's current population without the constant daily import of thousands of tons of food every day. We just haven't got the space to grow the food we need. Any disturbance to that supply system and people will literally starve. America has the space to grow food we don't.

Our Oil has been sold off cheap to foreign companies while the UK government collected Taxes on it. The coal and mineral mines have either been exhausted, or allowed to fall into disrepair/flooding as it was cheaper to import from abroad.

The industrial base has been all but removed. The factories are gone and replaced with warehouses, call centers, over-priced low quality housing and retail parks.

We import anything and anyone rather than develop our own manufacturing base or skilled/professional workforce.

The UK has squandered it's advantages from the early 20th century on-wards and is now living on borrowed time.

I did not spend the entire 2 weeks at Pete's.

I actually drove around quite a bit through Dixie and my experience of the Freeways and roads in terms of condition, maintenance and facilities was very positive compared to ours. The roads you mention as being good in the UK are not the ones the majority of people have to use everyday. You yourself have recently complained how it would take you 1.5 hours to drive 17 miles to get to work.

What do you expect me to do "to make my country better"? March around the streets waving placards demanding change to an unfair system? Yeah that's always worked really well hasn't it? Or maybe I should join some revolutionary group to overthrow "The Man" by violent means? I bet they won't see that one coming - where do I sign up?

As regards my personal situation, well, all I can do is work harder, longer, and for more pay. I'm already doing that and it Sux, but hopefully I won't have to do it forever.

Lastly, I did state  imagine I'm cruising down a smooth sunny highway. It's a Fantasy to brighten my day, not a statement of a factual achievable alternative.

Lastly, I accept that I may need to improve my "Active Listening skills" when on Zoom, but maybe you might need to develop your "Active Reading Skills" before throwing stones at fellow posters?

Just sayin'

And don't forget.

Have a Nice Day Y'all

Well true friends are plain talking and should be critical of each other. If we don’t we fail each other. How can we grow if we don’t offer constructive criticism.

MGtower that is a place worthy of being for a short stay.  I need no roads when I travel.  I travel on paths, trails, runways, walkways, places cleared or places wooded by Motorcycles, automobiles ,beast of burden or shoe-leather express.  Adaptability should be my middle name, but it,s already well known that my middle name is Asshole.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at the idiots who misunderstand me! Kind mockery toward the well-intentioned and unfettered cruelty toward all would-be prison guards of my creative possibilities. In this way I learn to revel as much in misunderstanding as in understanding and take pleasure in worthy opponents. Making language fluid, flowing like a river, yet precise and pointed as a dirk, contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful verbal dance—a linguistic martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.

Nice gloves Tower. 👍👍👍

I have helped many many people and when they get aggressive and fight me I like it because it tells me they still have fight in them and have not given up.

Over the years I've had young lads from the wrong side of the tracks marching into my office squaring up to me threatening me ,then 6 weeks later thanking me when they earnt their first big commission check.

I am always happy to help a brother who is either stumbling, down or lost. But only if the help will be welcomed.

I have known men in my circles of friends, colleagues, acquiatnces and associates who seem happier living in total ignorance and/or delusion and can never accept even the most basic advice.

For the the most part nowadays I don’t say much to people. I had a brother visit last weekend. He is several years yonder than me but thinks he knows better than me. I have lost count of the number of times he has eventually turned around and said I was right after all. I never gloat or act smug. In fact I am uncomfortable somewhat.

The most effective way I have learned to argue with someone is through hippocratic questioning or coaching. It consists of asking them about their beliefs and why they hold them. Each time they answer I respond with a further question that enables me to deconstruct their beleifs, opinions etc so they can see the possible flaws for themselves.

Working with patients with mental health problem it is critical that they are helped to see their strengths and limitations for themselves as opposed to me simply telling them what they are. It is also empowering for them because they see it for themselves.

Pits the same with people who argue with me or hold differing views. I don’t try to simp,y tell them they are wrong. Instead I try to guide themselves they see the flaws in the arguments for themselves.

There is definelty a anarchic, rebellious trait in those of us who seek solace in the wilds away from the madding crowds.

With the run up to Christmas and it presently being Black week, Black Friday, black weekend, and soon Cyber Monday when all hell breaks loose in the cathedrals of greed where the blind masses of consumers worship on the alter of materialism I run for cover and get the fuck away from it all. Society can keep it. All of it. I want no part. All those gluttonous brainwashed saps queuing through the night so they are first through the stores door in the hope of bagging a bargain. Any bargain so long as it’s a bargain. For useless shit they don’t need.

What was that saying - something like

people buy crap they don’t need with money they don’t have so they can impress people they don’t like.

When end I am up a mountain I contemplate on how long it’s been there. The sense of permanence and majesty of the place. How it’s stood there for thousands and thousands of years. Unchanged. Utterly. And wonder how many people throughout the ages have trod the paths I tread. Predating kings, predating the bronz and Iron Age - stretching back to the ice age when the weight of a mile high glacier carved the mountains and valleys it sat upon.

that is what blows my mind. Not some fucking 20% off some pointless shit on a stores shelf.

I love riding my motorcycles, the wind blowing thru my hair and the freedom on the open road.  It is the best therapy in the world.  A bad day at work disappears behind you very quickly with a twist of the throttle.  The best thing is being able to have a brother grab one of my bikes and go riding together.  It is an experience I love to share.

Sounds good buck.

I like motorcycles but admit that if I had been a rider I probably would have killed myself.

I like the open roads tho. Get out into the wilds. Down the winding  roads.

You should try a sky motorcycle!

No road rash!

No other assholes!

But you do have to keep your mouth shut to keep the bugs out!
