ZOOM Video Communication System Introduction and Use

A Zoom Video Communication license subscription was started after several members decided to use webconferencing technologies to improve their respective interactions. (Chauvinist Pig, GregBo, Greg Honda, JoeTech, Math, Net Trent, and Pistol Pete)

Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local desktop cilent and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Users engage in live, real-time communication without the need to travel.

Zoom Video sessions are open to any mature man who has been vetted by a long term Zoom Video system participant. Participants are required to provide an email address for use in communication, as well as to have one test session prior to being granted session connection information on an ongoing basis. It is encouraged that a “generic – non descriptive” email address be created for use with Zoom Video communication.

Zoom Video session participants are expected to conduct themselves in a civil manner, remain in compliance with Zoom Video Communications “Acceptable Use Terms and obey local, National and International laws at all times during sessions. Participants who choose to not follow these guidelines are banned from using this specific Zoom license, but are welcome to purchase their own to continue interacting with peers and associates.

Zoom Video session ID information is created every two weeks and forward via BCC email to all participants in good standing.

Zoom works best using the Google Chrome browser and first time users are highly encouraged to test your computer or mobile device prior to attempting to join a regularly scheduled session. https:zoom.us/test is available 24/7 to access a non-interactive (no live staff) test portal to ensure that your camera, microphone and speakers are properly configured.

To test Zoom, using the Google Chrome browser navigate to www.zoom.us/test webpage and then;

  • Click the “join” box.
  • New users should view the Zoom Support documents for your specific equipment located at:  https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/categories/200101697
  • Click on “Join Audio Conference by Computer”.
  • The microphone and camera icons located in the bottom left of the Zoom Meeting screen should be unmuted (no red diagonal line visible). If muted just click to unmute them. Click on the ^ symbol located to the right of the microphone and or camera symbol if your computer has multiple audio/video devices connected.
  • Ensure that the speakers, microphone, and camera selected in Zoom settings are the same units you plan to use during your program. Test the audio to confirm the microphone and speakers are operating correctly.
  • Once you have finished testing, use the “Leave meeting” button to exit.

A wired internet connection is preferred over wireless service whenever possible to ensure optimal interaction between yourself and other participants. A typical Zoom session uses 1.4 Mbs per second of data to transmit a bi-directional signal. Those with limited computer or wireless data signals may connect to Zoom session via telephone.
